This is a huge hotel with lots of facilities but sadly it has the 'face' of a hotel in serious decline. It is ideally situated very near to the Gondola, but what really lets it down is the quality of the food. I have seen various people on the discussion board saying 'the food is alright', when I don't know what they have at home but the Samakov food can only be described as cold uninteresting slop, for the whole week we were there EVERY meal served was either cold or just about luke warm, even the hot drinks machine was dispensing cold teas and coffees. I think anyone returning from the slopes after an energetic day out will simply want good hot food, it doesn't have to be fancy but what was served up was Communist era fare. The Tour Operators could be doing more to insist on better standards, Thompsons reckon it [The Samakov] to be a 4* hotel - you would ge...

|25-01-2010 12:13:27 Don - Don't do itI've just returned from a very disappointing week in Borovets. The biggest cause of my disappointment was the hotel we stayed in - the Samokov. The place could be described as funtional at best. However, its certainly not modern, inviting or pleasant. The service from most of the staff was shockingly poor and the food was awful. I understand the Balkan custom of not serving hot food; this was not the issue. The issue being over or under cooked meet, boiled to death pasta and vegetables, stale bread...the list goes on.
This hotel was advertised as being 4-star. Its nothing of the sort. Its seriously in decline and should not be included in tourist brochures until it raises its game.

|25-01-2010 22:52:45 Pete - The SamakovDon, I think it extraordinary that the Samakov is still being advertised as a 4* Hotel. despite all of the facilities the place is a dump and the stuff they serve up as supposed food is an utter joke the British Tour operators should be ashamed of themselves and should be challenged every time for the substandard holidays they are knowingly selling. Sorry to hear that the Samakov is still trading someone should level it.

|07-03-2011 11:26:46 neil - the somokov hotel barov - neil - the samokov hoteljust got back from the samokov hotel on the 06/03/2011. my room was very clean! there was no seal around the bath so when i had a shower the bath would leak but was not a problem. breakfast in the hotel was ok , evening meal wasn't great veg chips rice etc where warm but the meat dishes where good. i found some of the staff in the hotel quite rude at times but my skiing instructor, george, one of the samokov skiing insructors saved the day. he was brilliant and and would go back to this hotel because he was so good and a credit to barovets. good food to be had at the ELITE BAR near the gondola georges brother works there and will look after you. going back next year ENJOY !
